Derrick Kee

Derrick D. Kee is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He attended Lindblom Technical High School, where is was inducted into the National Honors Society and graduated with a 3.97 G.P.A., in 1997. Upon graduating from high school, he enrolled in Grambling State University. While at Grambling, Derrick excelled both academically and athletically. He was a member of the Baseball Team, on the President's List, honored as an Outstanding Student/Athlete, and voted Mr. Windy City for the Windy City Association, where he also served as Chaplain. In 2000, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.57 G.P.A. in Political Science.

In 2002, Derrick enrolled in Southern University Law Center. While attending Southern, he established himself as a leader amongst his peers. He was elected President of the Student Bar Association, and Vice President of the Louisiana Council of Student Body Presidents: an organization that represented and established procedures for over 200,000 students in higher learning in Louisiana. Derrick served as a National Delegate for the American Bar Association: Law Student Division, a member of the Association for Trial Lawyers in America (ATLA) Trial Advocacy Team (which competed in Miami, Florida), a member of the Southern University Tax Law Clinic, and was inducted as a Pupil of the American Inns of Court.

Additionally, Derrick received a vast amount of training while at Southern. He worked as a Research Assistant and a Teacher's Assistant in Contracts and Obligations Law. He also assisted with the lobbying efforts of The New Orleans Delegation as a Legislative Law Clerk in the 2003 and 2004 Louisiana Regular Legislative Sessions. He later clerked at the Louisiana Attorney General's Office, Gaming And Compliance Division, in 2004. In 2005, Derrick received his Juris Doctorate, graduating in the top 25% of his class.

Upon graduating from Law School, Derrick passed the Louisiana Bar Exam on his first attempt. He practiced law for almost two (2) years in Louisiana before deciding to return to his hometown in Chicago. While in Louisiana, he was an Associate Attorney at the Law Office of Tracy L. Oakley, which focused its practice in the area of Insurance Defense. After receiving valuable experience, Derrick went into private practice, providing zealous representation in the areas of Personal Injury, Criminal Defense, Juvenile Defense, Child Welfare, Employment, and Domestic and Family Law, among others. He has handled cases in over 10 parishes in Louisiana.

On October 8, 2007, Derrick joined the firm of Power & Dixon, P.C., where he plans to contribute to the firm's great history of advocating for progressive change in the community at large, as well as providing optimum legal representation to its clients.
